Talented children & their education
(Summary)

he article deals with possible approaches to education of talented children. The author believes that education system in our country is still based on the standardized approach, which makes the problem of finding ways of personalized education -especially in case of talented children -even more important. Two most common solutions are different of clubs & extracurricular classes for talented children, who continue their education at school, & formation of education establishments specially tailored for work with talented children, for developing their gifts & creativity. Then the author treats advantages & disadvantages of both schemes. According to him, the principal drawbacks of the first approach are: it's failure to provide adequate means of testing to single out talented children & the gap between the knowledge, given at such centers & at school. These contradictions can be solved within the second approach, at schools where specially trained & creative teachers will help talented children to develop their abilities, explore the world & form learning habits. At such schools scheduled & extracurricular classes will be taught by the same people within one concept of education. Much attention should be paid to teaching methods. The author introduces a model of a education establishment for talented children, which includes a research center (which studies contents & methodology of teaching), a school (education establishment for talented children), a department of extracurricular education (classes of the department are attended both by students of the school for talented children & by children from other schools) & seminar for creative teachers (giving them possibility to share their experience). In author's opinion, such approach will integrate the potential of curricular & extracurricular activities, serve further personalization of education & formation of integrated system of education from secondary school to the higher education establishments.
